On May 22, 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal along with more than 20 other practitioners from Hengshui, and was arrested. He was imprisoned at the Administrative Detention Center in Hengshui City.

In February of 2002, because Jiang Zemin came to Hengshui, the practitioners in Shijiazhuang Railroad Sub-bureau held banners, which made authorities panic. They arrested all the practitioners in Shijiazhuang Railroad Sub-bureau and sent them to the Provincial Brainwashing Center. They forced their workplaces to turn in 10,000 yuan (1) to the Province Brainwashing Center as "school tuition."

Yang Yun was arrested again on March 1, 2002, and sent to Hebei Province Brainwashing Center for persecution. Yang Yun was sent under custody of his workplace and the "610 Office" to the Brainwashing Center. From 8:00 AM to midnight, collaborators (2) and policemen took turns brainwashing him and simply did not let up. They tortured him until he could not breathe and his whole body turned purple. His face was pale, and he sweated profusely. The next afternoon, Yang Yun was picked up by someone from his workplace. As a result of the torture and mistreatment he endured in the Provincial Brainwashing Center, Yang Yun's body and mind were devastated. He left this world on April 19, 2003.
