Zheng Fangying, a 54 year-old woman, was from Beiwei Village, Tanfang Town, Qingzhou City, Weifang Area, Shandong Province. On December 2, 2001, Zheng was beaten up and later arrested by the police because she unfurled a banner in Tiananmen Square. Zheng, however, refused to give her name or address. Meanwhile, she carried out an 18-day hunger strike. Fearing that they would be held responsible for her serious condition, the police sent Zheng to the train station. When they asked her where she wanted to go, she said "Jinan." After getting off at the Jinan station, Zhang collapsed due to the serious injuries she had received. A kind-hearted person helped her to get home, but she passed away three days later.
