Fang Xianzhi, male, 61-year-old, lived at No.4, Unit 1 of Building 2, 33 Taisheng Road North, Chengdu City. This area is within the jurisdiction of the Dongshun local police station. On January 19, 2001, during the nation-wide arrests of Falun Gong practitioners, driven by Jiang Zemin, the police substation lured Fang Xianzhi to the police station with an excuse, saying that his 86-year-old mother had been to Beijing to appeal. They forcefully sent Fang Xianzhi to the No.1 Detention Center of Chengdu City and illegally arrested him there. On January 31, personnel from the police station suddenly informed Fang's family members to go and see him at a hospital near Ningxia Street. By the time his family members saw him, Fang was in total comatose state. The policeman of the detention center asked Fang Xianzhi's daughter to sign the release document. Seeing her father was tortured to such a miserable condition, the daughter called these policemen to account: "What rule did my father break for you to arrest him?" She refused to sign her name. After returning home, Fang Xianzhi passed away on the morning of February 2, 2001.
