Another three days later, she was sent to Paoju Detention Center. A week later, she was transferred to Tiantanghe farm and she is still in custody.

Ms. Yan Huiqin, 55, was detained for distributing materials on clarifying the facts about Falun Gong in early August.

Mr. Cao Tianhu, 24. On August 8, 2000, his home was ransacked. He is now detained in Haidian Police Station.

Ms. Li Qiulian, 30. She was arrested on June 24, 2000 for hosting fellow practitioners who came to her home to share experiences. After being detained in the Haidian Detention Center for one month, she was sent to Tiantanghe labor camp on July 25, 2000.

Ms. Jia Xiaoling, 35. She has been detained for six times. Ms. Jia Xiaoqing, 30, has been detained for four times. On October 26, 1999, Jia Xiaoling went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong, bring her four year old child. Consequently, she was detained in Changping Detention Center for two days. Later, she was detained in the Haidian Detention Center for one month. On February 4, 2000, Ms. Jia went to Tiananmen Square again, and was detained in the Haidian Detention Center for one month (she was on hunger strike for nine days). On March 16, 2000 during the "science" exhibition show sponsored by Army Museum, Jia Xiaoling and her sister Jia Xiaoqing went there to clarifying the facts about Falun Gong to people attending the exhibition show that contained many slanderous reports on Falun Gong. As a result, both of them were detained in Haidian Detention Center for nearly a month. They staged a hunger strike in custody, and they were badly beaten by police. On June 22, 2000, the two sisters were arrested for making copies of the materials on the facts about Falun Gong. They were again detained in the Haidian Detention Center for nearly one month. In the detention center, Jia Xiaoling once was tortured cruelly by the guards so that she could not walk, and an inmate even kneeled in front of the guards begging them to stop the torture. Jia Xiaoqing could not walk either for the inhumane tortures. The two sisters were arrested again on July 22, and July 27, 2000 respectively from their homes. On August 1, 2000, they were sent to Tiantanghe farm for forced labor.

[Hebei] Persecutions in Hengshui City

The police in Hengshui City of Hebei Province persecuted Ms. An Xiukun to death this June. They arrested practitioners who appealed for Ms. An's case. Later, they sentenced Ms. An's husband Zhang Qizhen to three years of forced labor. The police are still intensifying their persecutions against Falun Gong practitioners.

Take a county in Hengshui City as an example. Right before July 20, 2000, the police arrested many local practitioners, and detained those who refused to recant. Among them, a dozen of practitioners have been detained for 40 days. Four practitioners, including two elder people in 50s and 60s, were sentenced to forced labor without trials.

Several practitioners in a village went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They were brutally tortured after being escorted back, because the local communist authorities wanted to know who was the organizer. An old lady in her 60s did not want to see her fellow practitioners to be tortured any more. So she said to the police: "It was all my responsibility." As a result, she was sentenced to three years of forced labor without trial.

A practitioner whose surname is Li was detained in a detention center. He was later sentenced to forced labor without trial. While he was in the detention center, he introduced Falun Gong teachings to the convicted criminals in the same cell. An inmate who had been convicted of murder became interested in Falun Gong, and wanted to learn it. Before he was executed, he requested practitioner Li repeatedly: "Please make sure to save me in the future, please!" It was very touching.

The police often arrest and torture practitioners arbitrarily. They also ransack practitioners' homes and impose stiff fines at will. Some of them even demand briberies from practitioners' family members. They often withhold the money and living necessities the family members send to the detained practitioners.

[Guangdong]

Practitioners Wei Junhang and Zhang Fadong from Nanhai City were sentenced to forced labor for unfurling banners on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Practitioner Liu Qinming from Shaoguan City was also sentenced for the same reason, and is now being detained in the Sanshui Detention Center.
