(Clearwisdom.net) Amazed by the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company's tenth show in Taipei on March 25, 2010, Ms. Lin Mun-lee, former director of the National Palace Museum and incumbent professor of the Taipei University of Education, said with great delight, "The performance of the principal dancer in the program Astounding Conviction was overwhelming, and the power of arts conveyed by the program could touch people's hearts."

The last show in Taipei concluded to resounding applause and the entire audience stood up to honor the artists with a long standing ovation, and director Lin was no exception.

Reflecting on the performances, she said that the mission of Shen Yun is to restore the precious traditional Chinese culture, and that from the show she sensed the momentum that transcended time and space and that the performances resonated with the audience.

"As the music was arranged according to the dances, the overall performance on music and the breakthrough in combining (Western music instruments and Chinese instrument in the orchestra) were very impressive."

She felt the dancers' dedication is an important element that touches the audience and she said she was greatly moved by the performance Astounding Conviction, "The dancers had an extremely powerful performance," she added.

The dance Astounding Conviction tells the story of a Falun Gong practitioner who is steadfast in his belief regardless of the cruel persecution. His astounding conviction inspires divine beings to come to his aid. The dance was primarily performed by Mr. Timothy Wu, who demonstrated Falun Gong practitioners' strong conviction and noble temperament with his exquisite dancing techniques.

Referring to the contagious power of art in Mr. Wu's performance, curator Ms. Lin commented, "It was because it touched him first that it could touch others ... . His emotional involvement triggered energy and contagious power. This is the so-called contagious power of art."

Professor Lee is a famous art scholar in Taiwan. She earned her PhD degree from the University of Tokyo and was a former head of the Department of Art Education at the National Taipei Teachers College, former curator of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, president of the National Culture and Arts Foundation, and former deputy director and director of the National Palace Museum. She is currently a professor at the National Taipei University of Education.

Legislator Hopes Shen Yun Goes to China

Legislator Twu Shiing-jer attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company's sixth show at the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei on March 23. He said that he appreciated the dynamic backdrops very much as it created a vivid atmosphere for every program in the show. "The music comes from the live orchestra. Shen Yun is indeed a large-scale show," he said, emphasizing; "I deeply hope people in China can see this show, as Shen Yun exhibits traditional Chinese culture."

Shen Yun illustrates traditional Chinese culture through dances, music and vocals. Having watched the Shen Yun shows before deepened his appreciation for China's classical culture. Mr. Twu said, "We greatly respect culture and despise China's current political system." He further said that the episodes depicting Falun Gong practitioner's steadfast belief, regardless of the Chinese communist regime's persecution, was very successfully exposed.

Because the Chinese communist regime not only abuses human rights, but also destroys culture, he commented that any economic and cultural development would not last long without humanity, culture and freedom, just as is illustrated in the number Nothing Can Block the Divine Path.

Mr. Twu said that many people might think the last program The Buddha's Teachings Spread Far and Wide was the climax. However for him the opening scene, The Emperor Ushers in a Glorious Age was very meaningful and made especially dynamic by the vivid backdrops.

'So Beautiful and So Touching!'

Mrs. Bai, originally from Jiangsu Province, China, watched the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company's show in Taipei along with her friends on the evening of March 24. After seeing the show, she said the New York-based Shen Yun "was indeed, so spectacular that it really touched my heart."

She felt as though the nerve-endings in her entire body were tingling.

"So beautiful, and so touching! The dance Flowing Silk was truly fantastic. The dancer's movements, gracefulness and facial expressions were so fascinating that the more I saw them, the more I liked them. Indeed, very vivid! ... The dances demonstrated the characteristics of various minority ethnic groups, and their costumes were also gorgeous," exclaimed Mrs. Bai.

Integral to Shen Yun are story-based dances adapted from China's ancient legends, folk tales and modern day.

As a Christian who was persecuted in China, Mrs. Bai commented on two programs highlighting the plight of Falun Gong, Nothing Can Block the Divine Path and Astounding Conviction.

"I have lived in Taiwan for eight years. Taiwan is very good. It is very free, and people have freedom of speech as well as freedom of belief. Everybody can speak their minds. In contrast, there's no human rights and freedom in mainland China. The situation there is truly like that. I believe what was demonstrated in the show is the true scenario. It is indeed terrible to live in a place without human rights, such as China."

She concluded with a smile, "Today I finally realized why Shen Yun has been so popular."
