VI. The Persecution of Medical Personnel

There are a large number of Falun Gong practitioners in the medical sector in Dalian. They have excellent medical skills and high moral standards.

The CCP lied when it said, “Falun Gong forbids people from taking medication and 1,400 people died as a result.” The Party exerted intense pressure on Falun Gong practitioners in the medical sector so that they would keep silent.

1. Dr. Sun Lianxia Tortured until the Very End of Her Life

Dr. Sun Lianxia

Ms. Sun Lianxia, 50, was a well-respected doctor in Dalian. In the fall of 2000, she was arrested while on her way to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was later transferred to Dalian Forced Labor Camp. She went on a hunger strike and died as a result of persecution on January 16, 2001. The police continued to persecute her until the last day of her life.

2. Dr. Dai Zhijuan

Ms. Dai Zhijuan, 39, was a doctor in charge in Dalian Hospital for Gynecology and Obstetrics. She was detained five times and twice sentenced to forced labor for talking to people about Falun Gong. In April 2004, she was arrested again and taken to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In the camp, she was beaten, subjected to sleep deprivation and forced labor, put in solitary confinement, and injected with unknown drugs until she could no longer take care of herself. She was bailed out eventually on medical parole, but passed away on December 21, 2005.

Her husband, Mr. Yang Chuanjun, was one of the key contact persons for practice sites in Dalian. He was twice sentenced to imprisonment for a total of nine years and suffered all kinds of brutal torture. Her younger brother, Mr. Dai Zhizheng, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2013.

3. Dr. Fan Yue Hung Up and Sexually Abused

Ms. Fan Yue, 40, was arrested and detained many times for refusing to give up her belief. She was sentenced to two years of forced labor in 2001 and taken to Dalian Forced Labor Camp. In the camp, she was hung up spread eagle. Her tormentors put the back of a chair against her private area, pushed her legs far apart, and hit her genitals, the palms of her hands, and the soles of her feet with a wooden plank.

4. Associate Professor Subjected to Coercive Brainwashing and Suspension

Dr. Yu Xiaoyan, in her 30s, began to work in the Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University after she obtained a PhD degree in medical science in 2009. In less than a year, she was promoted to the position of associate professor. However, her husband, attorney Wang Yonghang, was sentenced to seven years in prison for practicing Falun Gong

On July 5, 2010, Dr. Yu was taken to a brainwashing center in Fushun for coercive indoctrination. She was also suspended from teaching and clinical practice.

VII. The Persecution of Entrepreneurs

Many Falun Gong practitioners in Dalian are in business. They run their businesses with honesty and consideration for others. As a result, they have gained both social and financial benefits. However, they are also being persecuted.

1. Ms. Gao Qiuju, Manager of a Foreign Trade Company

Ms. Gao Qiuju, 59, was manager of a foreign trade company and a key contact person for Falun Gong practice sites in Dalian. She was secretly sentenced to nine years in prison by Xigang District Court on February 1, 2000, and was detained in Dabei Prison in Shenyang.

She was forced to do intensive labor during the day and suffered interrogation with torture at night. Most of her hair was pulled out during the interrogation.

2. Mr. Cong Zhongxiao, Deputy General Manager of a Car Company

Mr. Cong Zhongxiao, 52, was one of the first MBA graduates in China. He taught in a university and was deputy general manager of Beida Car Company in Dalian for six years. He was humble and kind, and had strong professional skills. After the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong, he resigned from his job in order not to bring any trouble to the company. He was in his 30s at the time.

Death Bed

He was twice sentenced to six years in prison, and his wife divorced him. While incarcerated in Shenyang Prison, he was tortured by being tied to the Death Bed and held in solitary for five months. Three of his teeth were knocked out when Nanmen Police Station officers in Liaoyang City beat him.

3. Mr. Jin Yandong, Deputy Manager of Dalian Olympic Electronics City

Mr. Jin Yandong was deputy general manager of Dalian Olympic Electronics City. While he was detained at Dalian Forced Labor Camp in March 2001, he was shocked with four electric batons at the same time.

He used to teach at Dalian Maritime University, but was fired due to the persecution. Towards the end of 2003, he was employed by Chuntian Property Management Center, in charge of the training department. His excellent performance and integrity was widely acknowledged.

He was illegally arrested on May 20, 2005. The police confiscated his computer, mobile phone, and other personal belongings.

4. Sisters Ms. Wang Chunrong and Ms. Wang Chunyan, Entrepreneurs

Ms. Wang Chunrong, 63, was Director of the Board of the Dalian Chengxin Accounting Firm in Liaoning Province. On the afternoon of August 14, 2007, 36 Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Wang Chunrong, were arrested to “ensure the smooth running of the Davos conference.” Ms. Wang was later sentenced to over three years in prison.

Her youngest sister, Ms. Wang Chunyan, was a manager at the Dalian International Freight Company. She was sentenced to five years in prison and detained in Liaoning Women's Prison. Her other sister, Ms. Wang Chunying, was sentenced to two years and three months of forced labor.

After Ms. Wang Chunrong started practicing Falun Gong, her heart disease disappeared. She conducted herself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and she often reminded her subordinates, “We must never write false reports and never involve ourselves in any wrong practice to deceive people.” She was highly respected by the staff.

5. “Super Chef” Sun Zhengyun

“Super Chef” Sun Zhengyun, 56, was the owner of Huiyuan Noodles restaurant in Jinzhou. He was arrested on August 23, 2011. The police searched and ransacked his house and took his bank cards, nearly 10,000 yuan in cash, and other personal belongings. While he was detained in Dalian Forced Labor Camp, his restaurant was forced to close, with a monthly loss of nearly 10,000 yuan.

VIII. The Persecution of Technical Specialists

1. Ms. Yang Chunling Died as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Yang Chunling, 40, used to work as an interpreter in an import and export company in Liaoning Province. Her husband, Mr. Yang Benliang, was a high school teacher. They were arrested on September 5, 2005, accused of being involved in the interception of cable TV broadcasts in Liaoyang County to broadcast the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. On June 4 that year, Ms. Yang Chunling was sentenced to seven years in prison and her husband to 11 years.

In Liaoning Women's Prison, guard Cong Zhuo instigated inmates to beat her. They wrapped her head and mouth with plastic bags so that she couldn't breathe, then held her down on the floor and punched and kicked her, especially on the sensitive parts of her body. In one night, her legs were crippled and her arms were twice broken. The inmates also did not allow her to sleep, to eat or drink, or even to use the restroom.

She became extremely weak in prison, and her heart frequently stopped beating. There were also three lumps in her breasts that kept oozing pus and sometimes blood. However, she never wavered in her belief in spite of the cruel torture and suffering.

She was released on March 11, 2013, but was still under strict surveillance. She passed away on April 2, 2014.

2. Engineer Paralyzed Due to Persecution

Mr. Lu Kaili, around 50, was an engineer in a hoisting machinery company in Dalian. He earned the “advanced worker” award every year. However, he has now been in prison for 12 years for not giving up his belief. He has been paralyzed for the last three years.

He was arrested on September 5, 2005, for his involvement in the interception of TV broadcasts in Liaoyang County to broadcast the facts about Falun Gong and was sentenced to ten years in prison on June 4 that year. He has been detained in prisons in Yingkou, Panjin, and Jinzhou and cruelly tortured with the “Death Bed” and the “Big Hang Up.” He was also shocked with high voltage electric batons.

In October 2010, after falling from the roof where he was forced to work, he became paralyzed from the waist down. The fall fractured his lumbar vertebrae, pelvis, and ankles and damaged nerves. He became incontinent and unable to take care of himself. His family has asked to bail him out on medical parole numerous times, but the prison has refused.

3. Death of a Computer Graphics Expert

Mr. Wang Zhehao

Mr. Wang Zhehao, 27, became a computer graphics technician in a chemical design institute in Dalian after he graduated from university. He died as a result of the persecution on December 25, 2004.

Mr. Wang was forced to leave home and was arrested six times and suffered all kinds of cruel torture. While he was incarcerated, his family had over 13,000 yuan extorted from them. He was once beaten so brutally in Benxi Forced Labor Camp that he was covered with blood and passed out.

4. Electrical Engineer Mr. Guo Jufeng

Mr. Guo Jufeng used to work as an engineer in a company in Dalian. He left China and went to Germany in 2008. Prior to that, he had been arrested four times, incarcerated in three forced labor camps, and subjected to over 30 forms of physical and mental torture. Twelve practitioners he knew well lost their lives during the persecution, seven of them from Dalian. Five had young families. He was released after being on a hunger strike for 26 days.

5. Mr. Zhang Yong Brutally Beaten

Mr. Zhang Yong, 36, was an engineer in an electronics institute. While he was detained in Dalian Forced Labor Camp in 2003, he was hit on the head with a fold-up stool and slapped in the face with a shoe. On March 28, he was tortured with the “Big Hang Up.”

6. Chief Financial Officer Shocked with Electric Batons

Mr. Zhang Ruiming, in his 50s, was chief financial officer of a subordinate company of the Pacific Insurance Company in Dalian. In March 2001 while he was detained in Dalian Forced Labor Camp, his tormentors thrust an electric baton into his mouth and shocked him until his lips turned inside out and his face was covered with blisters. His head was swollen so badly that it became misshapen.

There have been countless similar cases during the ongoing persecution over the last 15 years. It is a huge catastrophe for the Chinese nation that average citizens are subjected to such prolonged large-scale persecution, in which they become crippled, mentally confused, or even lose their lives due to cruel torture.
