Top Performer at Work

I work as a salesperson, and my sales performance has been very good since practicing Falun Dafa. My company has also given me many awards and my partner and I have received many benefits.

Some colleagues greet me in the morning by saying, “Falun Dafa is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!” They have also commented, “Your good performance is a blessing from practicing Falun Dafa.”

At that time, I would talk to people about Falun Dafa and the persecution wherever I went. My work partner also helped me. “Withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) quickly,” he would say. “The CCP is corrupt and is lying to people. They are very corrupt. ” My sales volume increased, but gradually my attachments to fame, gain, and zeal began to rise.

Conflicts in the New Job

After receiving many awards, my attachments to fame and gain became more serious. Later, the company received a new project and underwent personnel changes. I moved to a new location and was assigned a new partner.

On the first day, my new partner let off steam: “So-and-so said that you are unpleasant and mean, and that you always grab the sales for yourself and leave nothing for others. I am afraid of you.” This was the first time we had met, and she had already complained about me.

Upon hearing her complaints, I felt as if I were falling from the sky to the ground. What’s going on? I came to work happily, but my enthusiasm was dampened on the first day. I felt so bad. However, I remembered that I am a Dafa practitioner, so I cannot dislike others. Instead, I looked inward and reviewed what I might have done wrong. I felt at the time that I only had tolerance in my heart.

I tried to stay calm. I thought, “What a pity. Her performance is average, but her jealousy makes her spread bad words about me. Her anger makes her unable to sleep or eat well.”

Yet I told her, “You will know me better after we work together for a period of time.” She demanded, “You need to count me in every time you receive a customer, including the customers you meet on the road, or your acquaintances from the past.” Although I did not speak up, I thought she went too far in her requests.

For a period of time, the company gave out awards for receiving the most customers. I counted her in whether she was there or not. In the end, she won first place, but I got nothing. She said, “I won because of you.” I replied, “Not from me, it is Dafa’s blessing.” She responded, “You are so nice, but why did others say bad things about you? I won’t listen to the bad comments anymore.”

When she began to have a good impression of me, my attachments to fame and gain drove me to find more customers, as if from desperation. I thus talked to people about Falun Dafa less and less, and my performance became worse than before. Seeking fame and gain, I seemed to forget that I was a Dafa practitioner.

One time I won first place for receiving one more group of customers than my partner. She argued with me loudly in front of the other co-workers: “We are together every day, so how did you have one more group of customers than I did?” I was very sad hearing her complaints. In fact, a friend helped me with a group of customers, which resulted in the difference.

I met many customers, but still achieved very few sales. She complained, “No use to meet so many customers. They are not committed to sales.”

Gradually, I felt uneasy with her, and I was not able to thorougly speak to her about Falun Dafa. As a result, she did not believe in it, though she did agree to withdraw from the CCP’s related organizations.

Removing Attachments to Fame and Gain

During the Chinese New Year, I completed some sales with several groups of customers. However, the amount of sales was small, about two or three orders. I was ranked second in March sales. At the celebration event, it was announced that my partner won the quarterly awards, and I got nothing.

After I returned home, I could not calm down to study the teachings of Falun Dafa. My mind was full of fame and wealth, and I was struggling with my emotions. Suddenly, I remembered what Teacher said:

"Sometimes, you think that something should be yours, and others also tell you that it is yours. Actually, it is not. You may believe that it is yours, but in the end it is not yours. Through this, it can be seen whether you can give it up. If you cannot let it go, it is an attachment. This method must be used to get rid of your attachment to self-interest. This is the issue." (Zhuan Falun)

My head then started to become clear. I regretted my behavior and realized that I must stop getting lost in everyday people’s pursuit of fame and gain. I opened Zhuan Falun and happened to see this paragraph:

"If you want to improve yourself, you should search your inner self and work hard on your heart—only then can you truly ascend and achieve tranquility in sitting meditation. The ability to achieve tranquility is gong, and the depth of ding indicates one’s level." (Zhuan Falun)

I realized I was wrong and that what happened at work was actually a good thing. The purpose was to help me get rid of the attachments to fame and gain so I could improve. Recognizing these attachments, I had to remove them. After I gave up fame and gain in my heart, I felt like I unloaded an extremely heavy package. I then became very relaxed and happy.

The next day she asked, “You always win first place. You must feel uncomfortable about not winning this time, right?” I replied with a smile, “No, I am fine.”

She questioned again, “You don’t feel bad because I won first place?” Being very peaceful after getting rid of the attachments to competition, comparison, and jealousy, I smiled and said, “The company gave the award to you, so it’s yours.” She suddenly calmed down. "Actually,” she said, “I know how I received this award." She smiled very happily, as though she understood the goodness of Dafa.

I am grateful to our Master and other practitioners for helping me improve. From now on, I will live by the principles of Falun Dafa and actively let more people know the goodness of Falun Dafa.
