(Minghui.org) Two years ago, my company decided to give every employee an end-of-year bonus of 4,000 yuan (US $600). In order to claim this bonus, we had to collect our receipts from our medical bills and redeem them for the money.
I knew that I had to make a decision between faking a receipt or giving up the money.
I didn't have any receipts from doctors because I have been mentally and physically well for the past 17 years through practicing Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. And if I had to somehow come up with receipts, I wouldn't be being truthful. I decided to pass up the 4,000 yuan.
As soon as I made up my mind, I was tempted by a phone call. A coworker told me that I could simply buy any over-the-counter medicine from a drug store, and that receipt would work too. I told her that I was healthy and didn't need any medicine.
It wasn't over. A few days later that coworker called me with an even easier way to get that money. She offered to “see a doctor” for me, get a receipt, and do the paperwork for me, and the money could be reimbursed directly to my account.
She told me that it was my right to receive the bonus, and she'd do it for me so that I didn't have to get my hands dirty. I explained to her how it was against my beliefs, and that I wouldn't be applying for the money.
She said that I was out of my mind for giving up the money. I told her, “I am after something different, something much better. One day you will see and you will say to me, 'What you are after is indeed wonderful.'”
She laughed.
As the deadline approached, the person in charge of the bonuses called me to encourage me to apply. I told her that I was healthy and I wouldn't be needing that bonus.
Last year again the company issued the yearly bonus in the form of medical reimbursement. When I heard the notice, I felt that it had nothing to do with me and it just slipped my mind. I easily gave up that money.
I was able to resist the temptation and hold on to my principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I knew that it was because I was a Falun Dafa practitioner and that I am after something much better.
