I’d like to share my understanding of the subordinate soul [ Editor’s note: which is also translated as assistant consciousness, assistant spirit, assistant soul, and subconsciousness in various Fa lectures] in this 7-part series.

I have personally experienced various forms of interference that my subordinate soul imposed on my master soul [ Editor’s note: which is also translated as main consciousness, main soul, and main spirit]. I have also witnessed some local practitioners being persecuted by their subordinate souls.

I've written down what happened to me and several fellow practitioners in my area to serve as a reminder to everyone to be aware of hidden interference from subordinate souls.

Of course, I can only see the things shown to me at my level, and they are by no means the whole truth.

Practitioners should be guided only by the Fa—the truth of the vast universe—and not by the understanding or experience of another cultivator.

Master Soul and True Spirit

When Master descended to this world level by level, gods who decided to be among his practitioners followed him with their True Bodies. They became the Master Souls in this world. A few True Spirits also descended with the True Bodies, showing courage and wisdom.

Master spoke of the process it takes to descend to this world:

“When I came, I went through the process of descending level by level. Gods at very high levels have a Trinity. At different levels there are different concepts and understandings of the Trinity. At very high levels where there are physical forms, Trinity is the composition of True Body, True Spirit, and Thought--that's the Trinity.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Vancouver, Canada, in 2003” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference II)

It is my belief that at the levels where gods have forms and the Trinity is of True Body, True Spirit, and Thought, some enlightened beings saw that god's arranged unprecedented tests. They realized that failing these tests was not an option, because it would cause disaster. So, they decided to descend with their True Bodies and True Spirits to assure that their dimensions would not miss out on the Fa-rectification. Then, their True Spirit became the subordinate soul.

As I understand it, they believed that by Body and Spirit being assigned different roles, they were doubly assured inclusion in the Fa-rectification. In short, based on Master's arrangement, the master soul would reach consummation while the subordinate soul would elevate too.

However, the subordinate soul would reach consummation under the arrangement by the old forces, while the True Body would be a true Falun Dafa practitioner.

What they did not understand was that such arrangements were perilous and revealed the cunningness of the old lives. It was rare that gods would dare do anything this way.

Returning True Spirits to Heaven

In one of my visions, I saw that the subordinate soul of one of our local coordinators was a True Spirit. It descended from a very high level where gods have forms and possessed strong supernatural powers. It played an important role when the persecution was rampant and enabled this practitioner to keep strong righteous thoughts.

Another local practitioner was a Fa-guardian in Heaven. He had vowed in Heaven that he would correct practitioners when they were not in line with the Fa during the Fa rectification. His subordinate soul was also a True Spirit.

Once when I was sending forth righteous thoughts, I saw Master's sending the two True Spirits back to Heaven.

Subordinate Souls Persecute Master Souls

Many practitioners were arrested and imprisoned immediately after the onset of the persecution. They were detained and tortured in prisons, police stations, brainwashing centers and mental hospitals.

With Dafa rooted deep in their hearts, they remained steadfast and their determination in keeping their faith was not shaken. The persecutors were furious, so the subordinate souls colluded with the persecutors to persecute the master souls.

As some subordinate souls knew of their master souls' attachments, they controlled everyday people to shake up their upright belief.

Some subordinate souls looked at their master souls’ reincarnation history with some going back multiple lives. They discovered what their master souls were afraid of and their weaknesses.

One practitioner died from snake poisoning in one of his previous lives. His subordinate soul infused images of snakes into the minds of police officers, who then tortured him with real snakes. The practitioner became so scared that he renounced his faith.

Another practitioner died because mountain cats attacked him in one of his previous lives. His subordinate soul made the police put a cat inside the practitioner's clothes. The cat scratched and bit the practitioner, who eventually gave up Falun Dafa.

A third practitioner died from being buried alive in several of his previous lives. The police dug a hole in the ground, and dangled him upside down, with his head inside. They then poured feces and urine over his head. The practitioner felt as if he was suffocating, became scared, and gave up the practice.

A fourth practitioner died from bug bites one thousand years ago. The police stripped him and put bugs, including poisonous spiders and scorpions, on his body. He also renounced his faith.

Master Provides Ways for Practitioners to Return to Dafa

Practitioners who wrote a guarantee statement that they would renounce Dafa were under great pressure and felt ashamed. They lost their confidence to continue their cultivation. Thus, Master lectured on this issue in great detail.

Master said:

“I don't acknowledge things like "being transformed" or "not being transformed." It's what's in people's minds that should be looked at. I still think that... Do you know that in order to transform them, the old forces have put them through severe mental persecution? They know that I don't acknowledge it, so what kind of method do they use? They separate the side of them that has righteous thoughts, or in other words, the side that's been fully cultivated, and they prevent it from having any contact with their minds. Then they ask questions of their human surface. But their human surface contains too many human things and postnatal concepts, and the side that's been fully cultivated isn't allowed to take effect at all. Since you've persecuted them under that set of circumstances, I won't acknowledge it no matter what you made them write. The old forces know that I don't acknowledge it, so why do they still do that? Because there's one thing that they can still accomplish, and that's their wanting to break the students' will. The students who made the mistake would think, "Oh no, I wrote that thing. It's all over for me. Master can no longer take care of me. I've let Dafa down." From then on they're depressed and their hearts feel heavy. That's the technique they've used and I don't acknowledge it. It doesn't matter that you fell down, it doesn't matter! Quickly get up!” (Fa-Lecture During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference)

Master is compassionate and gave the practitioners opportunities to issue a solemn declaration in which they rescinded what they did while under torture and resumed their cultivation.

Subordinate Souls’ Misdeeds

Master said,

“When the old forces of the cosmos saw that this Dafa that was spreading was completely positive, they promptly created many demons and ordeals. Precisely in this manner they formed what was, for the Fa-rectification, and for the cosmos’s Dafa, a demon. This is how things came about.” (“Fa Teaching Given at the 2010 New York Fa Conference” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference XI)

While sending forth righteous thoughts in the vicinity of local prisons, I saw in other dimensions how subordinate souls got involved in persecuting incarcerated practitioners.

Some practitioners' subordinate souls controlled everyday people to persecute practitioners.

After practitioners in prison discussed how to resist the persecution, their subordinate souls also gathered to discuss how to control the police or inmates so they would persecute their Master Souls.

Prison guards pulled three weak practitioners to the basement. They beat one practitioner with a baton until he lost consciousness. They then killed him. The other two practitioners were unable to bear the scene. One was unable to speak and tears covered his face. A guard said that it would be his turn the next day. The other practitioner suffered a mental collapse shortly afterward. His subordinate soul jeered, “This is what I wanted.”

Master told us, “The evil deeds that you are aware of have been exposed, but in fact there have been things far more cruel.” (“Fa Teaching Given at the 2016 New York Fa Conference”)

What I have seen is unimaginable. Who can believe that living beings could perpetrate such gruesome deeds? When seeing these scenes, I was unable to hold back my tears.
