(Minghui.org) “According to what we know, Mr. Lu is a good person. He has a good reputation among villagers. People all say he has a good character, but our superior wants him arrested,” the commander of a local police station said to the lawyer of Mr. Lu Shoulu.

Mr. Lu, a 65-year-old from Nanyu village, was taken by police on the afternoon of May 10, 2017 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.

He was sent to Zhangqiu District Detention Center the same day and formerly arrested on May 19. Police confiscated from his home Falun Gong books, several printers, a laptop, and other personal items.

When Mr. Lu's lawyer told case officers at the Procuratorate that there was no legal basis for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, a staff member said, “We didn't know! All we know is that our superior told us to handle it this way.”

History of Being Persecuted

Prior to his latest arrest, Mr. Lu was detained for 15 days in December 2015 for filing a criminal complaint against the former Chinese president Jiang Zemin for launching the brutal persecution of Falun Gong.

For refusing to renounce Falun Gong, Mr. Lu was sent to Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp from 2000 to 2003 and Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in 2005 for a year.

According to Mr. Lu, he was once taken to a room at Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp, stripped of his clothes, and forced to lay on the ground facing down. Police used rubber tubes filled with sand to beat him and four electric batons to shock him at the same time. Later, he was also forced in sit on a “small stool” and not allowed to move for over 10 hours a day. This torture continued every day for over four months.

In December 1999, Mr. Lu was arrested with other practitioners in Beijing. He was taken back to Zhangqiu City and detained for a month. During that time, he and other practitioners were put in the bed of a truck with large boards hanging from their necks for public display and humiliation.
