Mother and Daughter Tortured in Gansu Women's Prison

August 16, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Gansu Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Wanqiu and her daughter Ms. Liu Lei (who does not practice Falun Gong) have been held in the Jiuzhou Women's Prison, Lanzhou City, since the first half of 2017.

Ms. Liu Wanqiu has been tortured in prison because she refuses to give up her belief. Her daughter has also been mistreated there.

Ms. Liu and her daughter were arrested by officers from the Xigu District Police Department towards the end of 2015, while they were handing out information about Falun Gong. They were held in the Xigu District Detention Center, before being transferred to the Lanzhou First Detention Center.

Torture

The director of the prison Zhu Hong ordered inmates to beat Ms. Liu Wanqiu. Prison guards also did not allow her to use the toilet. They shocked her with many electric batons at the same time.

Ms. Liu's body is covered in bruises, her shoulder and elbow have become dislocated. One of her hands is deformed and she cannot hold anything with it.

It is believed that unknown substances are put into Ms. Liu's food or drink. She has had diarrhea during mealtimes. She is not allowed to use the restroom, so the stool frequently fell out of her pants, making the prison cell and corridors smell terrible. Her daughter would clean it up with a basin and towels.

Ms. Liu Lei was implicated because her mother refuses to renounce her belief. She is cursed at and beaten, and is often forced to squat for long periods of time.

Ms. Liu Wanqiu has been detained many times since the persecution started in July 1999. She was given four years of forced labor and a three-year prison term, and has suffered various forms of torture while in detention.
