(Minghui.org) A married couple remains detained following their trial on August 11, 2017 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Mr. Kang Zongfeng was arrested on February 18, 2017 after being reported for posting information about Falun Gong in public. His wife, Ms. Wei Fengqin, was arrested two days later when she requested her husband’s release. The couple’s son, Mr. Kang Shouqiang, was seized on April 6 when he went to ask for his parents’ release. It is unclear whether the young man has been freed.

The local Xiajin Procuratorate returned the case against the couple to police, but the latter refused to release them. Instead, the police fabricated more evidence and re-submitted the case. The procuratorate eventually indicted the couple and forwarded the case to the local court on July 4.

Mr. Kang and Ms. Wei appeared in court on August 11. Their lawyers entered a not-guilty plea for them, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict. The couple remains at Dezhou Detention Center.
